Motor V8 sobrealimentado
El XK-R cuenta con el mismo V8 que su hermano pequeño el Jaguar XK. Sin embargo, la marca británica ha sabido exprimir los 4.2 litros para subir su potencia desde los 300 HP hasta los 420 HP, gracias a un sobrealimentador Eaton. Su cifra de torque máximo, tampoco es despreciable: 413 lb-pie, por los 310 lb-pie de la variante pequeña. Con este motor, el XK-R hace el 0 a 62 mph en 5 segundos justos y tiene una velocidad máxima de 155 mph.

El sobrealimentador no sólo permite aumentar potencia y torque, sino mantener la entrega de este último de manera constante. Una modificación en el reglaje de las válvulas de variación continua ayuda a que el V8 del XK-R logre el 80 por ciento del torque por encima de las 2,000 vueltas y hasta límites cercanos al corte de inyección, establecido en 6.200 rpm.

Otro dato destacable de este motor, es que proporciona al Jaguar XK-R una de las mejores relaciones entre peso y potencia del mercado de los convertibles más lujosos: 9.34 lb por HP.

Acoplado al motor, Jaguar añade una sensacional caja de cambios automática secuencial de seis velocidades. Puede ser manejada con levas o desde palanca, pero lo verdaderamente importante son los dos modos de gestión de la transmisión –Confort y Sport- que modifican la respuesta del cambio en función de las necesidades de manejos. La respuesta del motor a las insinuaciones del cambio es ultrarrápida: 600 milisegundos.

El chasis, muy ligero, está fabricado completamente en aluminio, lo cual le concede esa ligereza extrema que luce el XK-R. Las suspensiones, independientes en ambos ejes, poseen un tarado más firme que en la versión XK convencional. Así, los amortiguadores son un 25 por ciento más duros y las estabilizadoras, 2 mm más gruesas.

Asimismo, mantiene el sistema CATS, de amortiguación adaptativa en función de las necesidades de conducción o al estado del asfalto.

Todo el conjunto está sustentado por unos descomunales neumáticos opcionales 255/35ZR, delante, y 285/30ZR, detrás, calzados en rines de 20 pulgadas.
