The 2011 Volvo V60 is equiped with a new 1.6-litre GTDi engine, which is available in two versions: 1.6 GTDi (T3) with 150 horsepower and T4 with 180 horsepower. The 180 bhp engine offers maximum torque of 240 Nm from just 1500 rpm all the way up to 5000 rpm. During short-term overboost, it provides an impressive 270 Nm of torque.

The 2.0T, T5 and T4 are available in combination with Volvo’s automatic six-speed Powershift transmission or a six-speed manual gearbox, while the T3 comes with a manual gearbox.

Volvo Trucks Initiates Field Testing of Liquid Gas

Today, Volvo Trucks will initiate public field testing with methane diesel trucks that can run on liquefied methane gas. At the same time, Sweden's first filling station for liquefied methane gas will open at Stigs Center in Goteborg.

This is a revolutionary step in the development of gas use in heavy vehicles, since trucks running on liquid gas combined with methane diesel technology has up to four times longer driving range compared to most traditional gas trucks.

Three Volvo FM trucks with 13-litre engines are currently being field tested. The technology is based on Volvo's proven Euro 5 diesel engine, which has been converted for gas operation.

The field test trucks are equipped with special tanks for liquefied methane gas. Liquid gas is the optimum fuel for methane diesel technology. When liquid methane and diesel are used in a ratio of 75--25, a truck performing long haul or intercity duties has an operating range 500 to 1000 km, depending on driving conditions. This is twice the operating range of methane diesel vehicles running on compressed gas and four times that of gas trucks with Otto engines.

The field test vehicles are being operated by transport companies DHL, Gotene Kyltransporter and Renova. The start of the field tests coincides with the inauguration of Sweden's first public filling station for liquefied methane gas at Stigs Center in Goteborg. The station is a collaborative project between Volvo Trucks, Fordonsgas Sverige and Goteborg Energi.

Filling stations have previously only existed for CNG (compressed natural gas). If methane gas is cooled down to minus 160 deg C instead of being compressed, it becomes liquid and its volume is reduced by half. In this case, it is called LNG (liquefied natural gas), or LBG (liquefied biogas) if it is a biogas. Both these gases are also called LMG (liquefied methane gas).

Volvo S60 2011

La familia Volvo esta pasando, en este tumultuoso año para el mundo del automóvil, un cambio muy profundo, en donde como ya vimos en otras oportunidades, la firma ya presento al nuevo XC60, y a los rediseñados C70 y C30. Pero ahora es el turno del S60 de renovarse, en donde a diferencia de estos dos últimos, lo hará por completo.

En las imágenes apreciamos a casi prácticamente el mismo prototipo que vimos en Detroit a principios de año, en donde solo cambia las llantas, en algunas terminaciones, y claro, en el interior (todavía sin ninguna imagen).
En la parte delantera vemos unas grandes ópticas, (dividas en dos como el Clase E, en donde a diferencia de este, el Volvo consigue un mejor diseño), una gran parrilla, y una toma de aire que esta divida en tres (iguales prácticamente a las del C70).
En el lateral vemos una línea fluida y armoniosa, en donde se destacan las llantas de 18 pulgadas, y la línea de cintura, que me recuerda a las de Audi (A5). Y en la parte trasera apreciamos unas ópticas muy agradables, y de gran tamaño, el nombre de Volvo dispersado por todo el baúl, unas grandes salidas de escape, y una ventana y baúl muy interesantes.

 

Entre las novedades del modelo se destacan el nuevo motor de gasolina, el 1.6 GTDi turbo de 180 CV e inyección directa, una caja de cambios Powershift de doble embrague, el sistema de ahorro de combustible DRIVe, la dirección asistida eléctrica, un sistema de detección de peatones que promete y muchos otros cosas más.
Al ver Volvo que el coche se descubrió en su totalidad, solo es cuestión de tiempo para que nos provea de todas las imágenes y de las especificaciones técnicas del mismo. Su presentación oficial se llevara a cabo en el Salón de Ginebra.

Votado por la revista especializada German Auto Build como el prototipo mas bonito entre 28 prototipos presentados, el Volvo S60 realmente se lo merece por detalles que lo distinguen como un auto de lujo.

Presentado al mundo en el Salón del Automovil de Detroit de este año, el Volvo S60 Concept es un auto con carroceria de 4 puertas, con el detalle de no tener parante entre las puertas delanteras y las traseras, y que las puertas traseras abren hacia atrás.

La seguridad es uno de los puntos fuertes de este prototipo, con el sistema "Collision Warning" y con la característica Full Auto Brake, que utiliza una cámara y un radar para detectar vehiculos y peatones cuando estos estan proximos al auto, si el conductor no realiza ninguna maniobra, el propio sistema realiza un freando para evitar el impacto ó evitar mayores daños. Ademas el auto tiene otro sistema llamado "Active Cruise Control", que adecua la velocidad del auto según el tráfico.

El diseño interior es otro punto fuerte de este auto con la consola central suspendida, la misma es semi transparente. Su interior es muy amplio, lujoso y espacioso y sumado al techo de cristal le dan un aspecto fantástico.

El Volvo S60 viene con un motor GTDi de 1.6lt sobrealimentado con un turbocompresor que genera una potencia de 180CV. Es un motor de bajo consumo y limitadas emisiones: 5l/100km.
